Currently, fraternities are often painted in a negative light for incidences related to sexual assault, alcohol consumption, and hazing. However, Sigma Pi has defied the public’s current negative connotation associated with fraternities.
100% of members in this organization have pledged to download the revolutionary mobile application, Ulzi, a tool to help prevent sexual assault.
This organization of caring community members raced to support a method that allows them to be the solution in their community. Ulzi is a free community-based safety app that helps keep everyone safe through crowdsourced safety. By having each member of this fraternity commit to such an application, the chapter overwhelmingly demonstrated their stance against sexual assault and their commitment to making their community safer.
“Sigma Pi is proud to support Ulzi in their mission to harness the power of community in the fight against sexual assault. We know that Cal Poly students are always looking for ways to help one another. This app will empower us to make a tangible difference.”
More about Cal Poly’s Sigma Pi:
In addition to standing up in preventing sexual assault with Ulzi, this chapter has strong involvement in Take Back the Night, Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, and other events that spark discussions about sexual assault.
Sigma Pi is also committed to raising suicide awareness and prevention. Each year, they hold a Suicide Awareness Week on Cal Poly’s campus. The events are designed to promote campus counseling resources, raise money for the Amazing Day Foundation, and teach students how to support their friends who may be struggling with mental illness.
Sigma Pi was selected as Cal Poly Independent Student Organization (ISO) of the Year in 2016 and awarded Grand Sage Cup Winner in 2016, helping this chapter to be in the top 4 Sigma Pi chapters overall.
Congratulations to every member of Cal Poly’s Sigma Pi for being one of the first organizations to take this step in fighting sexual assault. With support from people like you, Ulzi will be able to find solutions, decrease sexual assault statistics, and help YOU be the change in your communities.
