JJ Avila is our resident sponge. Not the squarepants-wearing variety, but the kind that absorbs knowledge at an alarming rate. In the constantly changing world of data analytics, website design, and software development, it’s important to have people that learn as quickly as the environment changes. At Ulzi, JJ fills that role beautifully. His official title is SEO & Analytics Specialist, but he fulfills an additional role as a teacher for those team members less digitally inclined.
See, sponges work in both directions, they can absorb, but when you squeeze them they release whatever they’re holding. In JJ’s case, this means when you ask him a question or to help you with something web related, an epistemic torrent comes your way. Just having JJ in the office is an ideal situation for a technology company employing so many non-computer science disciplines.
JJ is an avid enthusiast of all things digital when he’s not working, too. From subreddits dedicated to Wednesday My Dudes memes to online gaming, JJ takes the term digital native to the next level. He builds websites and integrates WordPress plugins for fun – right after he eats a healthy dose of data analytics dashboards research for breakfast.
For lunch, JJ works with members of the marketing team to create optimized acquisition funnels. His biggest contribution is in testing – which he runs with the efficiency of its own company. Managing and working with a cross disciplinary team is no easy task, but for JJ it’s a dream come true.
Working in IT before joining Ulzi, JJ was hungry for a new organization where he could make his mark. Well, we think that he’s made it here. Without him, some of us would still be in the digital stone age.
